HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK?
Acupuncture is a powerful, safe, and gentle medical therapy used to treat all types of muscle and joint conditions, chronic pain, arthritis, and spine conditions; speed recovery from surgery, boost immunity; alleviate allergy, digestive, breathing, skin issues, and some behavioral concerns.    Acupuncture is a complement to regular veterinary care and not a replacement.

The individual acu-points that make-up the acupuncture pathways cover the entire body similar to the circulatory system and nervous system.  Each of these points, when activated by a thin needle, has a distinct effect on the systems and organs of the body. Some points are used to reduce pain and speed healing while others may strengthen the immune system, digestive or respiratory system.

There is very little sensation of the acupuncture needles because they are only slightly thicker than a hair.  The needles are sterile, used only once and disposed.  Like people, many pets find the treatments very relaxing once they get used to the procedure and the environment.

HOW MUCH TREATMENT IS NEEDED AND HOW DO I KNOW IF IT IS HELPING?
Acupuncture therapy is a process that often requires frequent, consistent, and closely-spaced  treatments to be effective. Many common pain and mobility conditions experienced by pets require 1 or 2 treatments per week for a month or more before significant lasting results are seen.   Pets like people often do not have success  with an erratic and infrequent treatment schedule.

Some pets may show visible improvement in mobility, flexibility, agility, and show less sensitivity to being touched.   Some older pets may show limited visible changes in mobility but owners will notice that they are more sociable with people, friendly, playful, interactive with other pets, less irritable, more eager to walk, and generally have a brighter mood.  These changes can indicate that the pet is more comfortable and experiencing less pain.
